Future is in your hands



Youth Council Krusevac finished realization of the project „Future is in your hands“, which was organised in partnership with Correctional Home for Juveniles in Krusevac, and it was oriented towards young offenders in this institution. The project lasted three months, and 12 workshops were held around the subject of youth and social entrepreneurship. These workshops were organised by members of YCK, volunteers and professionals in the field of psychology.

The aim of this project was to give support to these young girls in the institution, and signify the ways that they can use and upgrade the knowledge acquired in the institution. Since there are certain vocations for which young offenders are trained in the institution, we appointed them that these skills can be used to start their own business, after we educated them about the procedure and different posssibilities. This way we worked on upgading the level of their self-asteem, ambitious and conscience about new possibilities after they leave the institution.

Workshops with young offenders understood:
- education about youth and social entrepreneurship
- examples of good practice from Newcastle, UK, in this field
- education about starting small firms and shops
- simulation of acquired skills’ application

Through realisation of these activities, girls were educated and acquired the skills they needed in order to start their own business. Considering the fact that ex offenders are having great difficulties in finding a job, and even if they get a chance - they rarely keep it, this way we offered them the alternative to do something different, something concrete for their future and not depend on others. We managed to stimulate and encourage them to look positively on future and period after leaving the institution.
